Iran tests new generation of Saeqe fighters

TEHRAN, Jan. 5 (MNA) -- Iranian Air Force Commander Brigadier General Ahmad Miqani said here on Saturday that the third generation of Saeqe (lightning) fighters has been tested and the fourth and fifth generations have been designed by Iranian experts.

Since the war, the armed forces have improved and made so many achievements, such as the production of the Azarakhsh (thunder) and Saeqe (lightning) fighter planes, Miqani said on the sidelines of a memorial ceremony for martyrs of the 1980-1988 Iran-Iraq war.

With the test completed, the third generation of Saeqe fighters will enter the Air Force fleet this year, the commander added.

Air Force experts have also designed and produced radar systems which are able to track various fighter jets and all satellites, he noted.

“Thanks to the efforts of indigenous experts, we are self-sufficient (in the arms industry),” the brigadier general stated.
