The program is being held to commemorate the Cultural Heritage Week in Iran, which kicked off concurrently with the International Museum Day on May 18.
The gallery is screening five of Derambakhsh’s films which feature the nomadic tribes of Qashqaii, Shahsevan, Bakhtiari, Turkmen, and Kurd, which are scheduled to be shown at 10 to 13 a.m. and 16 to 20 p.m., until June 8.
An exhibition displaying photos taken from the films by Sorayya, Derambakhsh’s sister, is also underway at the galley.
In addition, a live Turkman musical performance, and another exhibition showing tribal ornaments, are being held at the gallery which is located at No.3 Shahid Kachuii St., Evin St.
Dermabakhsh is famous for his documentaries about the various aspects of Iranian nomads’ lives.
His docudrama “Ascension”, describing the lifestyle of the nomads of Shahsavan in northwestern Iran, was screened at the 5th International Non-budget Film Festival in Cuba, in April.
His other credits include “Blood Is Red”, which is a documentary on the subject of Iran’s wildlife, and “Dream of An Island”, a documentary about the natural beauty of Kish Island in the Persian Gulf.
He has also directed the feature-length movie “The Blind Owl” which is based on Sadeq Hedayat’s famous novel.
