The tremor occurred at 3:30 a.m. local time (GMT 0130), 870 meters underground. The Polish Press Agency (PAP) reported that 15 miners were in the danger zone, 12 of whom were rescued and 10 of whom were taken to hospital.
"The search operation for three miners is ongoing. There is no contact with them at the moment. Rescuers are very close to the missing people," Rajmund Horst, deputy chief of the company that runs the mine, told a press conference.
There have been three fatal accidents in coal mines in Poland so far in 2024, with one at the Myslowice-Wesola mine, according to the PAP.
