New York protesters slam US veto of Gaza ceasefire resolution

TEHRAN, Dec. 10 (MNA) – Thousands of protesters have packed the streets of Lower Manhattan, New York City, denouncing the US veto of a UN Security Council resolution on a permanent ceasefire in Gaza.

The protesters came out on Friday afternoon as the US vetoed the resolution.

“I think it’s absolutely appalling that the US vetoed a ceasefire,” a protester was quoted as saying.

While chanting “Free Palestine”, the demonstrators called for an end to their country’s financial and military support for the Israeli regime.

The rally was dubbed “Shut Down Wall Street”, according to the newspaper, with the demonstrators gathering outside a number of prominent landmarks in New York, including City Hall and Wall Street.

The protest was the latest in demonstrations held across the United States against the Israeli regime ever since it launched its war against Palestinians in Gaza on October 7.

On Friday, the US vetoed the Security Council resolution despite the fact that it had been backed by the UN chief as well as most members of the council amid growing concerns over the growing humanitarian crisis in Gaza. The resolution had been presented by the UAE.
