Iran commiserates with Hurricane Harvey sufferers

TEHRAN, Sep. 01 (MNA) – FM Spokesperson Ghasemi, while voicing regret at damages caused by the cyclone in parts of the US, shared sorrows of affected people and families of the victims.

Bahram Ghasemi, Spokesman of the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, sympathized with victims of Hurricane Harvey in the US which left dozens dead and many more missing in Gulf of Mexico coasts.

Hurricane Harvey is an active weakening tropical cyclone that is causing unprecedented and catastrophic flooding in southeastern Texas. In a four-day period, many areas received more than 1,000 mm of rain as the system meandered over eastern Texas and adjacent waters. Harvey is the wettest tropical cyclone on record in the contiguous United States.

The resulting floods inundated hundreds of thousands of homes, displaced more than 30,000 people, and prompted more than 13,000 rescues causing at least 35 billion dollars of damage to the houses of the inhabitants of Texas and surrounding areas.
