Pres. Rouhani felicitates Muslim leaders on Eid al-Adha

TEHRAN, Aug. 31 (MNA) – Iranian President Hassan Rouhani has felicitated leaders of Muslim countries on the occasion of Eid al-Adha, which marks the culmination of the annual Hajj pilgrimage on Sep. 1.

In separate messages to Muslim leaders on Thursday, President Rouhani expressed hope that Muslims would enjoy the spiritual and social benefits of Eid al-Adha, and reinforce their efforts for restoring peace and security to Islamic countries.

The President also called for joint efforts to eradicate violence, war and terrorism, which are the “heritage of world powers for the oppressed, crisis-hit regions”, from Muslim countries and to present to the world the true image of Islam, which is based on compassion, peace, justice and peaceful coexistence.

Eid al-Adha, known as the Feast of Sacrifice, is one of the holiest Muslim celebrations that represents the end of Hajj pilgrimage to Mecca. This year, the celebration falls on September 1, during which Muslims traditionally sacrifice animals like sheep, rams, goats and cattle to commemorate Prophet Abraham’s submission to divine order to sacrifice his son, Ismail.
