The National Cued Speech Association defines Cued Speech as "a visual mode of communication in which mouth movements of speech combine with cues to make the sounds (phonemes) of traditional spoken languages look different. Cueing allows users who are deaf, hard of hearing or who have language/communication disorders to access the basic, fundamental properties of spoken languages through the use of vision."
Guita Movallali, Iranian assistant professor at University of Social Welfare & Rehab Sciences in Tehran, chose cued speech as her dissertation and based on her efforts, the cued speech was created for the Persian language and allowed Iran to join the rest of the countries in the world in using the visual system of communication for the deaf and hard-of-hearing people.
The National Cued Speech Association (NCSA) awarded Ms. Movallali with Educator Award for her excellence and innovative leadership in promoting the use of cued speech in education. Movallali’s research has also led to the publication of various scientific articles on cued speech inside and outside of Iran.
She has also developed a Persian/English website, software, digital books for android, CDs, flash cards and relevant charts for educating teachers and families of the deaf and hard-of-hearing people.
