Iran denounces Bahrain's ban on al-Wefaq

TEHRAN, Jun. 17 (MNA) – Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Hossein Jaberi Ansari expressed regret over the closure of Al Wefaq, Bahrain’s main opposition group which happened on Tuesday.

Regarding the decision of Bahrain court to closed down the office of Al Wefaq, Bahrain’s main opposition group, on Tuesday, Jaberi Ansari said Bahrain's government's approach complicates the crisis in the Arab country.

Expressing regret over the government's decision to prevent Al Wefaq's activities, he noted Bahraini government's approach in dealing with peaceful protests through increased security crackdown, detaining human rights activists and moderate leaders, as well as the closure of the offices related to peaceful social and political communities will deteriorate the internal crisis in the country.

FM spokesman expressed hope and called for the government of Bahrain to provide necessary measures to start serious talks and to establish peace and stability in the country, through confidence-building measures.

On Tuesday, the Bahraini Justice Ministry announced in a statement that the kingdom had suspended all activities of al-Wefaq. It has also dissolved al-Tawiya and al-Risala Islamic associations.
