The senior politician and cleric, Rafsanjani, now in his eighties and the Head of Expediency Council, believed that the upcoming Parliament elections, which would determine the composition of 10th Parliament (Islamic Consultative Assembly), “is one of the most critical elections in the history of the Islamic Revolution, and I will also come.”
Rafsanjani told this in response to a question by one of the participants in a meeting of PhD students of Political Sciences Wednesday evening, who asked him about February elections. The ambiguous phrase “I will also come” would be interpreted as either Hashemi’s spiritual support for the general process of the election and aimed at improving the turnout; it would also be interpreted as his candidacy for the Parliament elections in the second iteration of his speech.
“The conditions should be worked out in a way that bring public hope and warm up the election process so as to create another ‘political epic,’” Hashemi Rafsanjani told the inquiring student.
