Judo national team to depart for Abu Dhabi

TEHRAN, Oct. 26 (MNA) – Iran's national judo team consisting of 5 representatives will take part in 2015 Judo Grand Slam held in Abu Dhabi, UAE.

By the end of 2015 International Judo Federation Junior World Championships, the city of Abu Dhabi is getting ready to hold the Judo Grand Slam tournament as well with participation of the world's best judo fighters from October 30 to November 1.

With 5 judokas, the Iranian national judo team will leave Iran for the United Arab Emirates on Wednesday to begin their competitions on Friday.

Accordingly, our country’s team led by Majid Zereian will the take part in the tournament with Mohammad Berimanlu in -66kg weight, Arash Aghaei and Vahid Bana in -73kg weight, Saeid Mollaei in -81kh weight and Javad Mahjoub in -100kh weight category.

On the basis of the tournamet's schedule, the draw and weigh-ins will be held on Thursday, October 29 and judo fighters of 60 and 66kg weight categories will begin their races on Friday.

Meanwhile, the competitions of 73 and 81kg weights will be held on Saturday while the fighter of weights -90, -100 as well as +100kg will go on tatami on Sunday, November 1.

Iran's national judo team is seeking tickets to 2016 Rio Olympics and the Judo Grand Slam has a significant role in offering Olympic quotas.

Being the fourth Grand Slam of the year, Abu Dhabi tournament follows editions in Baku (AZE), Tyumen (RUS) and Paris (FRA).
