Iran backs Russia’s role in fighting terrorism in Syria

TEHRAN, Oct. 21 (MNA) – Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani upon leaving for Moscow said the Islamic Republic supports Russia’s role in fighting terrorism since its actions are based on reality and authorized by Damascus.

Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani made the remarks at Mehrabad Airport upon his departure for Russia to attend and deliver a speech at the conference of the 12th annual meeting of Valdai Discussion Club titled “Societies Between War and Peace: Overcoming the Logic of Conflict in Tomorrow's World.” The conference will be held in the Russian city of Sochi on Thursday.

“Given the current important crises in the region, one of the main topics of the meeting will naturally be about the disruption in the regional security which demands convergence and active participation of dutiful countries toward this issue,” said Larijani.

The Iranian senior official added that the meeting would be a great opportunity for all to present a clearer analysis of the regional developments.

Larijani further stressed that fighting terrorism is not a tactical or periodic measure, and given the increasing spread of terrorist activities, the countermeasure needs a comprehensive plan to deal with the scourge of terrorism.

Deputy Foreign Minister for Consular Affairs Hassan Ghashghavi is accompanying Larijani on this one-day visit to Sochi, Russia.
