4 in 10 of world population unaware of climate change

LONDON, Sep. 15 (MNA) – Despite problems causing global warming, it is estimated that 4 of every 10 people in the world never heard of climate change.

That figure rises to 6 of 10 people in countries like Egypt, India and Bangladesh, according to a study about risk perception of climate change published by the journal Nature Climate Change.

The research is about the attitude of the world population on the phenomenon. The data was obtained through surveys in 119 countries, and analyzes possible causes that lead people to perceive a higher or lower risk.

The results show that most developed countries are usually those who have greater knowledge of climate change. However, this does not necessarily imply a greater perception of risk in these countries.

The research highlights that Latin America and Europe are the areas where the population is more aware of the problem.

Hi, I am just wondering about the efforts of the UN agencies and NGOs and even governments in terms of raising awareness of people towards climate change and educating them about the ways to combat it, especially in Africa and the developing countries. The issue needs to be tackled along different dimensions and layers, each layer of the community to be addressed differently. Unfortunately I don't see any awareness raising campaigns regarding the climate change and its impacts.
