HR/VP Mogherini:

Possible N-talks extension ‘matter of days’

Possible N-talks extension ‘matter of days’

TEHRAN, Jun. 29 (MNA) – European Union foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini has said in case of a possible extension in nuclear talks, there will be no long term extension, only ‘a matter of days and not more.’

European Union foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini spoke to reporters in Vienna following the wrap-up of the nuclear talks between Iranian Foreign Minister and representatives of Western countries on Sunday.

She maintained that the two sides have the political will to finalize the deal and as such they have been tasked to start working immediately on the text in an attempt to translate the political understanding found in Lausanne into texts that are solid enough for the coming days.

She stressed that there will be no long term extension for the nuclear negotiations, "extending the talks dose not necessarily pave the way for reaching an agreement, however, if we need to have a couple of additional days more, it is very clear that the deadline is going to stay end of June/beginning of July.”

Mogherini also added that there are no new points open on the agenda and the two sides are not renegotiating things; rather, the basis for talks is the mutual understanding already reached in Switzerland in April.

She further noted that the technical work has been proceeding well, saying with a political guidance given to the negotiating teams, a nuclear deal will be hopefully finalized in the coming days.
