Iran to escort its endeared ‘175 divers’ to eternity

TEHRAN, Jun. 15 (MNA) – Tehran will be the pinnacle of a media phenomenon which stole the limelight in domestic virtual social networks.

Since May 18 when Brig. Gen. Seyed Mohammad Baqerzadeh announced the disinterring of 175 divers, which he had said were buried with tied hands, a wave of reactions, positive and negative, swept the virtual world of social networks which was unparalleled and unique in the history of groundbreaking headlines in the media.

The story goes that Baqerzadeh’s remarks even wetted the sentimentalities of the families of divers found along with other 260 martyrs and the public alike; “the bodies of 175 martyrs who today entered the country belong to the divers of the Islamic Republic from the Sacred Defense [Iran-Iraq War], who were martyred with their hands tied by the Baathists during Karbala 4 operation.” He added, “Some of the bodies were discovered with no injuries, and we realized they were buried alive.”

Ramazan Sharif, also an IRGC Brigadier General, had told the media that the Operation Karbala 4 had been leaked to the Iraqi Baathist regime mainly through US intelligence operatives. He also said that for the very reason an early directive was issued at that time to avoid major human toll.

The virtual media campaign ‘175 diver martyrs’ which now has taken many artists and famous celebrities into itself, was a media novelty where Mahnaz Afshar, Seyed Javad Rezavian, Bahareh Rahnama, Rambod Javan, Behnoush Bakhtiari, Elika Abrorrazaqi, Amin Zendegani, joined; the list is not exhaustive and many other art and cinema celebrities participated in the campaign.

The funeral ceremony for 270 martyrs (to which 175 divers belonged) will be held Tuesday June 16, starting from the western entrance of the Parliament in Baharestan Sq.
