Solar-generated electricity linked to national power grid

TEHRAN, Oct. 8 (MNA) – Installation of most parts of the mirrors of Shiraz’s solar power plant, Fars Province, will be completed until end of the current Iranian year, falling on March 20, 2005.

Yusef Armudeli, chairman of Renewable Energy Organization of Iran (REOI), speaking about the organization’s activities in using solar energy to generate electricity, said that the organization’s sections for converting solar energy into electric energy is activating in two parts of photovoltaic electric energy and constructing solar power plant.

He added that in the part of photovoltaic electric energy, the 35-kW-energy photovoltaic panels has been produced and connected to the entire network, 5 kW of which has presently come on stream in the main building of the research center’s deputy for the energy affairs.

Pointing out to the pilot solar power plants constructed by this organization, the chairman said that in the power plant section, 30-kW experimental power plant of Taleqan has converted 65 mWh of solar energy to the electricity and delivered it to the entire network. He added that a 250-kW polite power plant is about to be established in Shiraz, beside the gas power plant of this city by the Iranian experts.

Noting that 2 mW electricity has been injected into the national power grid through the electric energy converted from solar energy, he said that Shiraz pilot power plant accumulates the sunlight through 6000 convex mirrors and after changing the heat to steam, it turns on a special electric machine to generate electricity.

In conclusion, Armudeli announced that 70% of constructing Shiraz’s solar power plant has been completed, expressing hope that most parts of the mirrors will be installed until end of Iranian year of 1383.
