Iran’s agricultural production to hit 64m tons this year

TEHRAN, Sept. 22 (MNA) -- Deputy agronomy affairs at the Agricultural Jihad Ministry, Mohammad Hossein Shariatmadar, predicted the agricultural production in the country would reach 64,395 million tons in current Iranian year (started March 20), IRNA report yesterday.

Shariatmadar said to IRNA that more than 13.5m tons of wheat, 2.9m tons of barley, 3.1m tons of rice, 1.9m tons of corn, 400,000 tons of cotton, 5.5m tons of sugar beet and 400,000 tons oilseeds have been produced during the period.

Referring to summer corps, he stated that 1.3m tons of melon, 1.55m tons of cucumber, 2.5m tons of watermelon and 620,000 tons of other summer crops would be produced in the country.

He further noted that other agricultural products include 650,000 tons of cereals, 4.5m tons of potato, 1.58m tons of onion, 6.2m tons of sugar cane, 4m tons of tomato, 2.55m tons of different kinds of vegetables, 4.3m tons of alfalfa, 6.8m tons of other grass crops, 26,000 tons of tobacco and 120,000 tons of other agriculture plants.
