Violation of Humanitarian Rights by Occupying Forces Aggravates Iraq’s Crisis: Statement

TEHRAN April 13 (MNA) — “With the recent escalation of the clashes between the U.S. occupying forces and the people of the Iraqi city of Faluja, hundreds of the people have been killed or wounded.

Considering the coalition forces’ lack of discrimination between military and civilian targets in Iraq, the continuation of the conflicts would entail more human casualties and financial damages to the civilian targets in that country, the Humanitarian Rights National Committee of the Islamic Republic of Iran said in a statement issued here on Tuesday.

“While condemning the measures, the committee expresses concern over the condition of the civilians and innocent Iraqi people in the occupied lands of Iraq,” the Public Relation Office of the Islamic Republic of Iran’s Red Crescent Society quoted the statement.

“Considering the U.S. forces’ control and rule over Iraq, the committee calls for the U.S. government as the occupying force in that country to act in accordance with the Fourth Geneva Convention in meeting its responsibilities towards establishing order and security for the Iraqi citizens,” the statement also read.

“Violation of the international humanitarian rights by the occupying forces would further aggravate the crisis and lead to irreversible humanitarian catastrophe for the innocent people of Iraq,” the statement further asserted.
