Iran to exercise right to maintain peace in Hormuz Strait

TEHRAN, Mar. 13 (MNA) – Iran’s Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the United Nations Amir Saeed Iravani has emphasized Iran’s inherent right to safeguard peace and security at the Strait of Hormuz.

In response to a question that "the US Navy, possibly together with the coalition, may escort ships through the Strait of Hormuz, he stated, “Iran will exercise its inherent right to maintain peace and security in the Strait of Hormuz; this is our responsibility.”

In response to another question on "How are Iran’s diplomatic relations with the Iraqi Kurdistan Region?" Iravani added, “We had serious negotiations with the Iraqi Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG). They informed us that they will remain committed and will not allow any illegal transfer from their territory into Iranian soil."

Referring to the remarks of Leader of the Islamic Revolution on the Strait of Hormuz, Iravani noted, “Iran does not intend to close the Strait of Hormuz. However, maintaining peace and security in this lifeline waterway is our inherent right and this is considered our inherent right."
