Iran to react harshly if JCPOA violated

VIENNA, Dec. 06 (MNA) – Iran’s nuclear chief said Tue. sustainability of JCPOA is subject to implementation of commitments by all parties involved and in case of any violation, Iran’s reaction will be decisive and harsh.

Head of Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) Ali Akbar Salehi made the remark in the opening ceremony of IAEA’s "International Conference on Nuclear Security: Commitments and Actions” which is currently underway in Vienna and will conclude on Dec. 9 in the Austrian capital.

“The Islamic Republic of Iran has so far remained faithful to all of its commitments under the nuclear deal and will not be the first country to undermine it,” Salehi said, adding “unfortunately, we are now being witness to some irrational moves by the US.”

Salehi was referring to the recent move by the US Congress in passing the extension of Iran Sanctions Act (ISA) which according to many senior Iranian officials is in clear violation of the nuclear deal.

Salehi went on to express regret over the lack of transparency on more than 80 per cent of nuclear materials that are being used by other countries for military purposes.

He stressed that Iran is one of the staunch supporters of a world free of nuclear weapons, and voiced deep concern over the refusal of the Israeli regime for signing up to the NPT which poses a serious threat against regional and international security.

He also called on all countries to condemn cyberattacks against nuclear facilities and to adopt comprehensive measures for countering such attacks.

The Iranian nuclear chief noted the risks of the access of terrorist groups and criminals to nuclear and radioactive materials, emphasizing the role of cyber space in facilitating such access.

Salehi further highlighted the need for safeguarding sensitive information related to nuclear security.
