Soheila Salahsour Kordestani, the major researcher, told reporters on Monday that the research work had been underway since 25 years ago; “now we have succeeded in extracting minerals and biomaterials from shell of crustaceans which have the properties of rapid healing of lesions,” said the member of the Board of Medical School.
“The project won 5 patenting in Europe as applications in healing diabetic wounds, venous insufficiency ulcerations, and other diverse sorts of lesions; biological bandage for wounds including burns are of extensive applications and significantly improves the speed by which the body recovers the injured parts,” Salahshour Kordestani told the press. “Bandages are anti-bacterial and reduces antibiotics prescriptions for patients with infections or lesions; the crustacean shell has minerals such as chitosan which is known for its anti-bacterial properties. The minerals have no side-effects on the body as well.”
Ms. Salahshour Kordestani is founder of a knowledge-based firm on medical engineering and had been awarded necessary permits by Ministry of Health and European Quality Standard and ISO 13485, which is a special ISO in medical products. She said that the bandage had been marketed in Iran in 5 different versions; “the synthetic bandage uses polymeric material and oil-related products; however, current bandage where shell of crustaceans is incorporated are unique in their naturally healing wounds thank to the anti-microbial properties,” Salahshour Kordestani added.
