Iran ready to enhance cultural ties with Armenia

TEHRAN, Dec. 14 (MNA) – Head of Tehran Municipality Cultural and Art Organization met Armenia’s minister of culture announcing Iran’s readiness to expand cultural ties.

Talking about the cultural ties of Iran and Armenia, the Armenian Minister Hasmik Poghosyan said “Recently an exhibition of an Iranian-Armenian photographer was mounted in Yerevan on Iran and the two countries have also started to cooperate in the field of literature. Both the countries have almost boosted ties in all cultural and artistic fields and we tend to expand it to artists as well.”

“Joint music productions, trilingual Persian, Armenian and English books as well as Iranian-Armenian concerts are the fields we can work on”, she added.

Talking about the terrorist attacks in the Middle East, she said “I think no sane person will demolish his country’s historical works. Having a neighboring country like Iran, which is sensitive toward its heritage and cultural values, gives us power. I believe that agreements between Tehran and Yerevan municipalities will boost interactions.”

Head of Tehran Municipality Cultural and Art Organization Mahmoud Salahi, for his part, said that Iran and Armenia enjoy cultural commonalities. Ties between two countries vary according to different circumstances but as cultural ties grow older, the interactions bolster as well. Our main responsibility is to convey the culture of ancestors to the future generation.

“We wish peace for the world. Followers of divine religions seek freedom and those who destroy cultural works and kill people, in the name of religion, do not believe in any religion", he added.

Iran is ready to transfer its experience to the municipality of Yerevan. The two countries can boost cultural ties through holding cultural weeks, producing joint films as well screening films of Iranian and Armenian artists in both the countries, Salahi concluded.
