UN Secretary General's Special Coordinator for Lebanon Segrid Kaag and Iran’s Zarif exchanged views on the prevailing political status in Lebanon and the volatile Middle East region in a meeting held on Monday in Tehran, IRNA reported.
The political stability in Lebanon is ideal for the Islamic Republic of Iran, Mohammad Javad Zarif said stressing country’s support for dialogues among various Lebanese groups and parties.
In case foreign pressure is lifted from the Lebanese political scene, Zarif further noted, the people will achieve a proper political solution.
He stressed supportive role by UN in the process.
Zarif meanwhile expressed Iran's concern over te kidnapped Iranian diplomats in Lebanon and called for UN's assistance in resolving the problem.
The UN undersecretary, for her part, hailed Iran's role in protecting peace and stability in Lebanon, adding that the country suffers from a legal and social vacuum which is neither appropriate for the country, nor for the region.
