Parliament to dispatch envoy to Myanmar: Boroujerdi

TEHRAN, Sep. 13 (MNA) – Senior MP Boroujerdi said on Wednesday that a delegation of Iranian MPs will be dispatched to Myanmar to investigate the situation of the Rohingya Muslims.

“It has been arranged to send a delegation of MPs to Myanmar to evaluate the situation,” said Alaeddin Boroujerdi, the Chairman of Iranian Parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Commission, on Wednesday. He said that it will be done under the auspices of parliament’s speaker.

He made the remark among the reporters after leaving the emergency meeting of National Security and Foreign Policy Commission. The meeting was attended by senior officials from Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

“Considering the situation of Muslims in Myanmar, it was necessary to leave the holidays unfinished and hold a meeting with foreign ministry officials,” asserted the Iranian ranking MP.

He recounted that Iranian ambassador to Thailand has travelled to Myanmar voicing the deep concerns of the Islamic Republic of Iran over the deteriorating situation of Muslims in Myanmar at meeting with Burmese government officials. “The Iranian ambassador has called for immediate stop of atrocities towards Muslims,” he underlined.

“Hajar Chenarani will represent Parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Commission during the visit of the delegation of the foreign ministry to Myanmar,” noted the Iranian law-maker. Boroujerdi said that Chenarani is tasked to take some measure about Rohingya displaced women who make up a population of some ten thousands of the Burmese refuge.
