US not competent to criticize others on human rights

TEHRAN, Mar. 04 (MNA) – Foreign Ministry spokesman in response to the release of US annual report on human rights on Friday, said the country is not in a position to comment on the situation of human rights in other countries.

Condemning the allegations provided in the report against the Islamic Republic and some other countries, Bahram Ghasemi said the US government has not the credibility to comment on the situation of human rights in other countries, due to its negative records both inside and in the international level.

No international entity has given the authority to the US government to survey and assess the situation in other countries from their own point of view; “The US does not have such a position or right to make judgments over the situation of human rights in a purely political and unilateral way."

Pointing to the US government's actions in other parts of the world, Ghasemi said they not only violate national sovereignty but also the human rights in countries around the world.

“US recent move to ban Muslims entering the country and the harassment of Muslim families in that country is a clear violation of human rights,” he added.

Foreign Ministry spokesman concluded that the US government’s interventionist report is an attempt to cover up its domestic human rights problems and to distract the public opinion from its support for some allies in the region who hold very dark records in abusing human rights and whose war crimes in a number of regional countries are obvious to everyone.
