Iran left with no choice but to react to JCPOA violation

TEHRAN, Jul. 20 (MNA) – Iran’s Parliament speaker, while criticizing UN Sec. Gen.’s recent statement, said Iran has no choice but to respond to US violations of JCPOA.

Speaking at the open session of the Parliament on Wednesday morning, Ali Larijani said “United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon’s recent report to the Security Council as well as comments made by a number of 5+1 representative, although containing no legal commitment for Iran, suffered from various inaccuracies which mark downfall for the UN.”

“In his report, Ban Ki-moon points to Iran’s commitment to its obligations while he makes no reference to Iranian concerns and complaints about lack of liability on the part of the 5+1,” he continued.

Parliament Speaker Larijani, while questioning the biased position taken by Ban in his confidential report quoted by Reuters on July 7 as saying that Iran's ballistic missile launches “are not consistent with the constructive spirit” of the JCPOA, said “the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) is comprehensive and robust enough to prevent UN Sec. Gen. from making irrelevant comments on the deal.”

“JCPOA contains no reference to ballistic missiles,” highlighted the official adding “only one annex of Resolution 2231 refrains Iran from constructing missiles designed to carry nuclear weapons; a plan which Iran has never performed.”

Larijani emphasized that Ban’s comments are based on poor grounds like the possibility to increase tensions in the region; “indeed, some countries are after causing tension in the region which remains completely unrelated to Iran’s missile program.”

“Tightness and tension have been brought about by those who have been slaughtering Yemeni people over the past one and a half years as well as by those who withdraw citizenship of their religious leader in addition to those who have lingered war in Syria for five years by providing terrorists with TOW missiles,” Larijani directed to Ban Ki-moon.

He further emphasized that 52 bills and resolutions have been passed against Iran in the US House and Congress which are all contrary to terms of JCPOA.

The last three anti-Iran legislations passed by the US House of Representatives are so blatantly violating the nuclear deal that have been opposed by White House officials, said Larijani questioning UN secretary’s silence over the issue.

“Mr. Ban has also deemed the visit to Iraq of Iran’s Gen. Ghasem Soleimani as contrary to JCPOA,” underlined the Parliament speaker asserting “rather than appreciating the efforts of the Iranian commander in confronting cruel terrorists, the UN published false reports.”

“Even more shameful, was the utterance of similar comments by representatives of the US and two European countries in the Security Council despite the fact that ISIL has performed terrifying operations in Europe over recent weeks,” maintained the official.

He said in order to realize the main causes for the growth in terrorism, the West requires to observe its own illogical behavior and dual standards.

“The Iranian Parliament, while condemning the remarks made by UN secretary general, warns the US House of Representatives and the Senate that their frequent violations of JCPAO have left Iran with no choice but to initiate proper responses,” stressed Ali Larijani.

Parliament speaker urged Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) to prepare the plan to launch a nuclear plant in accordance with applicable law for performing enrichment processes needed by the country.
