Israeli attacks on Mosque could provoke holy war: PLO

TEHRAN, Sep. 15 (MNA) – Israel could provoke a global holy war with the attacks on the Al Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem, said Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) leader Hanan Ashrawi.

According to a PLO statement issued yesterday afternoon, provoking the entire Muslim world in its actions at the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound, Israel rocked the holy site for the second straight day.

“We call on the international community, including Arab countries and Muslim states, to intervene immediately before Israel succeeds in launching a global holy war,” said Ashrawi.

Palestinians clashed with Israeli regime police at Jerusalem's flashpoint Al-Aqsa Mosque compound for the second straight day on Monday as Jews celebrated their New Year and Palestinian protesters vowed to protect the holy site.

Israeli forces detained and injured a number of Palestinians, including journalists, during the clashes, and protesters reportedly barricaded themselves inside the mosque.

The actions have been condemned by Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and other Arab leaders.

“There is no judgment against anyone who believes in him. But anyone who does not believe in him has already been judged for not believing in God’s one and only Son. And the judgment is based on this fact: God’s light came into the world, but people loved the darkness more than the light, for their actions were evil. All who do evil hate the light and refuse to go near it for fear their sins will be exposed. John 3:18-20 NLT
