President Hassan Rouhani arrived in New York on Monday and was received by a group of Iranian officials.
First on his agenda, Rouhani attended a meeting with a number of US media executives and told the meeting that US-led airstrikes on Syrians is an illegal act.
Rouhani and Japanese PM Shinzō Abe also met and discussed bilateral issues and market cooperation. They also confer on the regional issues, especially on the international campaign against terrorism.
President Rouhani called on Japan to actively cooperate in Iranian market and also stressed the importance of bilateral cooperation on environmental matters, particularly in management of water shortages.
Abe for his part invited President Rouhani to take part in a Conference on the Environment and Crisis Management to be held in Japan in March.
Further on Tuesday, Rouhani and his Turksih counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan met in New York and discussed bilateral issues. President Rouhani invited Recep Tayyip Erdogan to visit Iran to hold the second meeting of Steering Committee and review the Ankara Agreement, and cooperation between the two countries.
During another meeting with French President François Hollande, the two sides discussed Iran's nuclear issue. President Rouhani said that trust is the basis for bilateral relations, reiterating that the West should comprehend Iran’s regional influence.
The French president said that Iran-G5+1 negotiations need to lead to a final comprehensive agreement as soon as possible.
“Such an agreement can raise the level of bilateral relations to a higher level comparing to the past,” added President Hollande.
François Hollande reiterated the need for cooperation between the two countries in combating terrorism and said that Paris, like Tehran, has decided to help the Iraqi government in its campaign against terrorism.
He pointed to Iran’s role in fight against terrorism and expressed hope that reaching a comprehensive nuclear agreement would lead to more cooperation in many fileds between the two countries.
Hollande meanwhile expressed optimism for the expansion of industrial cooperation between the two countries.
President Rouhani had also a meeting with his Austrian counterpart. Rouhani pointed to energy sources in Iran and told Heinz Fischer that the Islamic Republic is ready to implement network to transfer natural gas to Europe through Austria. He hoped for expansion of scientific relations between the two countries as well.
In this meeting, both sides confered on Iran's nuclear issue and Rouhani asserted that “the important issue for Iran is to have access to peaceful nuclear technology for the development of the country.”
The Austrian president pointed to the old record of the two countries’ relations and said his country would welcome expansion of economic, cultural and scientific relations between Austria and Iran.
Moreover, Iran President Hassan Rouhani met with Venezuelan counterpart Nicholas Maduro and talked on bilateral issues.
Rouhani stressed that the interest for strengthening Tehran-Caracas relations still exists; adding that he believed the other countries’ influence should not affect such friendly relations.
President Maduro also highlighted the significance of Iran and Venezuela ties and mentioned that this was also the suggestion of the late Venezuelan leader, Hugo Chavez.
President Hassan Rouhani is in New York to attend the 69th UN General Assembly and will deliver his speech 'on behalf of all Iranians.'
