MP Omidvar Rezaei and legal assistants of the government, the judicial system and the guardian council discussed treaties on the extradition of criminals, transfer of convicts and other legal and judicial cooperations.
Giving information and statistical evidence on the treaties submitted to the parliament and the cases referred to the expediency council, Rezaei said “the treaties are sometimes rejected by the guardian council and are sent to the expediency council for ratification. This time-consuming process causes problems for the public, the judicial and the diplomatic system and delays the process of passing acts. The parliament speaker and its members demand a solution to this problem.”
The vice president for legal affairs Laya Joneydi discussed the refusal in some cases to extradite offenders and said “through collaboration with the scholars of the guardian council, we can include religious issues in treaties of this kind as well.”
The representative of the guardian council, Darvishvand explained the process of thr presentation and ratification of agreements in the guardian council and said “we need to reach an one single text for all agreements in order to avoid delay in implimentation of the agreements.”
At the end of the meeting, Rezaei expressed hope that the agreements can be ratified more easily.
