“Mirror” actress Mahin Shahabi dies at 74

TEHRAN, Aug. 23 (MNA) -- Veteran Iranian actress Mahin Shahabi passed away at the Pars Hospital in Tehran on Monday due to a brain tumor. She was 74 years old.

The news was announced by her daughter Arezu Shahabi in several Persian news agencies.

Last April, “Condition White”, a current TV series directed by Hamid Nematollah, turned out to be her swansong after she learned that she had a brain tumor.

She was not able to continue her work with the TV series crew due to her deteriorating physical condition.

Shahabi was mostly known for her role in “The Mirror”, a popular Iranian TV series that IRIB broadcast in the 1980s.

Also known as Mahin Niktab’, she took the surname of Shahabi from her husband after their marriage.

Shahabi began her career with radio shows in 1958. Shortly afterwards, she attended courses at the Anahita Art Center, an Iranian acting school.

“Jungle Adventure” directed by Mehdi Mirsamadzadeh in 1959 was her acting debut.

In 1969, she appeared in “The Cow”, a widely acclaimed film by a new wave Iranian director, Dariush Mehrjuii.

Shahabi’s credits also include “Mercenaries”, “Mission”, “Meeting Day”, “Azure City” and “Let Me Live”.
