Three-day mourning period declared in Lebanon

TEHRAN, May 20 (MNA) – Lebanon's caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati declared three days of national mourning on Monday, following the deaths of Iranian President Ebrahim Raeisi and the Foreign Minister in a helicopter crash.

A circular signed by Mikati explained that on this occasion flags will be flown at half-mast on all public buildings in the country, and that “the usual radio and television programs will be modified in connection with the event,” Lorient Today reports.

This morning, Hezbollah's al-Manar TV channel broadcast Iranian TV footage of men praying in Iran.

In Lebanon, several officials have paid tribute to Raisi and Amir-Abdollahian. The Jaafarite Mufti, Ahmad Kabalan, close to Hezbollah and the Amal Movement, praised "an exceptional personality" who "constantly extended his hand to serve Lebanon and contributed to the liberation of its territory."

Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri, in a statement addressed to Iran's Leader, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, expressed, "On behalf of myself, the Lebanese Parliament, and the Lebanese people, we extend our deepest condolences to you and the Iranian people ... and I pray for God to bestow upon you good health and guidance in leading the Islamic Republic of Iran and its revolution towards more resilience, strength, and prosperity."
