“The 2015/2016 edition of the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour was resumed with the Kish Island Open in Iran from February 15 to 19 on one of the most beautiful islands in the Persian Gulf,” said Kasra Ghafouri, Secretary General of the Beach Volleyball Organization.
He underlined that given the excellent organizing of the tournament, Kish Island will host the event for three consecutive years.
The second edition of Kish Island Open, which now enjoys a three-star rating by FIVB, will be competed from February 15-18, 2017 and the cash prize of the 2017 Beach Volleyball World Tour has increased from 25 to 100 thousand dollars.
“The 2017/2018 edition of the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour will kick off with the Kish Island Open,” noted the official asserting “in case of FIVB approval, an international coastal arbitration will be held in Iran prior to the World Tour.”
In the previous year, the Kish Island Open, which followed on from three Open events in 2015, saw Qatar, Russia and Poland standing in the first to third places, respectively.
The five star structure will make the hierarchy of the events within the World Tour clearer to fans, sponsors and broadcasters. Each event will need to fulfill specific criteria set by the FIVB depending on the star ranking in order to ensure consistency across the World Tour for each category. The criteria include the level and quality of facilities, technology and infrastructure, the type of competition format, prize money, world ranking points, and requirements for TV production and broadcasting.
