Iraqi president arrives in Tehran

TEHRAN, May 12 (MNA) – Iraqi President Fouad Massoum has arrived in Tehran, welcomed by minister of industries, trade and mine.

President Massoum heads a high-ranking delegation of Iraqi officials to Tehran. Mohammad Reza Nematzadeh welcomed Massoum and his entourage upon arrival in Tehran. The visit will last three days. Delegation includes Iraqi ministers of tourism, environment, and commerce.

Mr. Massoum will be officially received by President Rouhani on Wednesday in Sa’ad Abad historical complex and they will hold private meetings. They will also attend a joint press conference. Mr. Massoum’s agenda includes meetings with high-ranking state officials inter alia, Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani and Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani, the Head of Expediency Council.

On Thursday, Iraqi president will depart Tehran for Baghdad. Mr. Fuad Massoum is a member of Iraq’s Kurdish Patriotic Union. Last year, Mr. Massoum gained 211 votes of the parliamentarians to take the position of the president. He is the second president after the fall of Saddam Hussein in 2003. Mr. Massoum’s visit would possibly address the recent, highly criticized US Congress plan to divide Iraq into three Shia, Sunni, and Kurd regions.
