The delegation, including representatives from Norway, Austria, Sweden, Australia and Belgium as well as UN officials visited the project of transferring Karun river’s water to Shadegan wetland this morning.
Environment Department of Khuzestan province Adel Mola said during the visit that, “the project of constructing a station for using the Karun river to revive the Shadegan wetland located in the city of Shadegan is being undertaken.”
Deeming restoration of Shedegan wetland as the primary objective of the project, he added, “this is a major and valuable project which guarantees water supply to Shadegan wetland leading to its restoration and conservation.”
“The volume of water transferred from Karun river to this wetland will rise to 5 cubic meters per second,” said Mola.
The delegation is also scheduled to visit Shadegan wetland as part of their next plan.
A 1.6 million dollar fund has been assigned for the implementation of thes project and so far it has advanced by 60 percent; if the remaining fund is supplied, the project will become operational by the end of this Iranian year (March 2016) and by its completion, 150 million cubic meters of water will enter Shadegan wetland.
Several environmental experts as well as some ambassadors took part in the visit.
