APLL to Compile Different Iranian Dialects

TEHRAN June 12 (MNA) -– The director of dialectology group of Academy of Persian Language and literature (APLL) said measures have been taken to collect different Iranian dialects.

Dr. Qarib said the compilation of those dialects on the verge of extinction would be the first priority.

 

The plan of Sogdian grammar was ratified by the Academy of Persian Language and Literature.

 

Qarib is an outstanding expert on Sogdian language whose book "Sogdian Dictionary" deals with different terms of Buddhism, Manichaeism and Christianity.

 

This dictionary is in two volumes and was selected the book of the year in 1986 and its second edition was republished recently by the Nashr-e Farhangan publisher.

 

The Sogdian language is a branch of Iranian Central Asian languages which have been the language of Silk Road for one thousands years and Abu Rayhan Biruni in his calendar book has referred to this language and its festivals.

 

The "Story of Birth of Buddha" which is a research and translation work by Qarib will be republished by the Avishan Publisher.    

 

Another book by Qarib is "The Silent Languages", a translation of Johannes Friedrich with the cooperation of Dr. Yadollah Samareh and its third edition has been republished by the Institute of Cultural Studies and Research. 

 

This book traces ancient calligraphies such an Egypt, Babylon, ancient Persia etc.
