Produced by the Iran’s Young Cinema Society and the Experimental and Documentary Film Center, the film will be shown in new feature-length films section of the festival.
In addition, the film received the Young Czech Critics Jury Award at Karlovy Vary International Film Festival and it was also screened at Torino Film Festival in Italy.
The London festival director Robert Rider previously selected the film at Cannes Film Market to be screened at the event.
The movie tells the story of little Neda whose mother was killed in a terrible flood. She then moves to another town with her father. She is not receptive to her new cousins attempt to cheer her up and it just worsens her grief. Handling child bereavement in an intelligent and brave way, “Butterflies Are Just a Step Behind” uses visual poetry and even a brief animation sequence to explore emotional recovery.
