The Iranian deputy foreign minister who was speaking during the second free tribune held at Imam Musa al-Sadr institute said on Tuesday when al-Sadr was in Qom, along with his friends formed a golden generation that many of them are now among high-ranking religious and political figures.
"As he moved away from the traditional Qom Seminary and entered a special social sphere including a variety of cultures and opinions, Al-Sadr’s life, however, is different from his friends," Jaberi Ansari added.
Imam Musa al-Sadr, the leader of Lebanon's Shia Muslims, was kidnapped along with two companions, in the summer of 1978 during a visit to Libya to meet Gaddafi.
The Iranian official added, "Lebanon, the country Imam al-Sadr went to was a kind of laboratory for different political and cultural movements in the region and the world."
The conditions in Lebanon made a man out of al-Sadr who is today and tomorrow’s need of all people.
Refering to the ongoing conflicts in the region, Jaberi Ansari said peaceful coexistence is one of the dimensions of al-Sadr’ ideology which is an urgent need in these days.
“On one hand, we are facing extremist Takfiri terrorists in the region and on the other hand impatient governments not representing their society, the result of this is violence, war and bloodshed … in the region,” he continued.
"Another important dimension of Imam Musa’s ideology is his resistence against the Zionist regime which he started first in the region", he added.
Jaberi Ansari called for a collective effort to free the abducted Imam and to promote his thoughts and ideology.
“There was a problem to follow al- Sadr’s case when Gaddafi was in power but when he was removed from power, there were one thousands problems. There was not a real government to negotiate with. But there are now several governments in Libya and each tribe is governing some parts of the country,” he concluded.
