PJAK deputy commander killed

TEHRAN, Sept. 7 (MNA) – The deputy commander of the counter-revolutionary group PJAK has been killed in the new round of operations carried out by the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps against PJAK terrorists, the Fars News Agency reported on Wednesday.

Reportedly, Majid Kavian, alias Semko Sarholdan, was killed by shrapnel on September 3. The website of PJAK confirmed his death in a statement.

On September 2, the IRGC Ground Forces began a new round of operations against PJAK after the end of a one-month respite given to terrorists to retreat from border areas in northwestern Iran.

The IRGC announced that it will continue its operations until the region is cleared from terrorists and counter-revolutionary elements.

The PJAK (the Party for a Free Life in Kurdistan) was established in 2003. Its camps and bases are mostly located in Iraq, near the border with Iran. PJAK uses Iraqi Kurdistan’s soil as a safe haven for organizing its terrorist actions against the Islamic Republic.

On July 11, after the escalation of PJAK’s terrorist actions in northwestern Iran, IRGC forces mounted a large-scale offensive against the group and killed, wounded, and arrested dozens of terrorists. But later, the IRGC scaled down the fight against PJAK during the holy month of Ramadan.

Army Commander Ahmadreza Pourdastan also announced on Wednesday that the Army is helping IRGC Ground Forces to clear northwestern border areas from PJAK terrorists.

“PJAK is not capable of posing a major threat to the country, because they are a bunch of hooligans got together to make desperate moves,” he said.

The IRGC in cooperation with the Army will give a crushing response to them, he added.
