Qajar Calligraphy Works on Display at Golestan Palace

TEHRAN Feb. 16 (Mehr News Agency) -- Calligraphy works from the Qajar era by Master Ahmad Neyrizi are now on display at the historical complex of the Golestan Museum-Palace.

Works by artists of the Qajar era include calligraphy works of Qur’anic holy verses and prayers, mostly preserved as the treasures of the museum, said the assistant of the complex.

Ahmad Heshmati added that seven precious tableaus by the master are currently on display including a calligraphy work in praise of the Prophet Mohammad (SA) in gold in the naskh script written in Medina.

“The works which experts believe are written by the master are comprised of 99 covers of the Holy Qur’an, as well as several collections of prayers,” said Heshmati.

Master Neyrizi was born in Qom in the early Qajar era. He practiced lessons of calligraphy under the supervision of the great masters of his time Aqa Mohammad Ebrahimi Qomi, and Aqa Mohammad-Sadeq Arjestani.

Ahmad Neyrizi is buried in Karbala, Iraq.

The exhibit will continue for one month.
