Iran, Belarus stress boosting security cooperation

TEHRAN, Dec. 15 (MNA) – The Iranian Foreign Minister and the Secretary of the Belarusian Security Council discussed various aspects of bilateral relations and the importance of strengthening cooperation in various fields, including security area.

Abbas Araghchi and Alexander Volfovich held a meeting in Minsk on Monday afternoon. 

The Secretary of the Belarusian Security Council referred to the common view of Iran and Belarus on the necessity of respecting the principles and rules of international law and multilateralism as a prerequisite for maintaining global security, and emphasized the importance of mutual support between Belarus and Iran on issues of shared interest, including at the level of international organizations.

The Foreign Minister of Iran, for his part, considered strengthening relations with like-minded and independent developing countries, including Belarus, as one of the priorities of Iran's foreign policy, and, referring to the formation of various operational mechanisms to facilitate the implementation of agreements reached between the two countries over the past two years, assessed the prospects for Iran-Belarus relations as very positive.

Araghchi described the cooperation and coordination between the two countries in the field of security as one of the exploitable potentials for expanding relations.

International developments were discussed during the meeting, and the necessity of cooperation and coordination between the two countries to prevent the normalization of lawlessness and the increasing violation of the principles of the United Nations Charter and international law was discussed.

During the meeting, the Foreign Minister further praised Belarus' principled stance in condemning the US and Zionist regime's military attack on Iran's peaceful nuclear facilities and the violation of Iran's national sovereignty and territorial integrity.
