Mahdavikia parted company with the German club by mutual agreement and returned to his homeland after playing in Bundesliga for 11 years.
Meanwhile, the Eintracht Frankfurt chairman praised the right winger’s professionalism and dedication.
“Mehdi is an extraordinary professional,” Heribert Bruchhagen was quoted as saying by the German Spiegel website.

Mahdavikia began his professional career with Iran’s most popular team Persepolis. He joined VfL Bochum in 1998 and then played for HSV Hamburg from 1999 to 2007. The 32-year old player later transferred to Eintracht Frankfurt, but was kept out of the team in the current season.
He played in 255 Bundesliga games and scored 29 goals and provided 57 assists.
Mahdavikia played 111 times for the national team, including four AFC Asian Cups and two FIFA World Cups scoring 13 goals.
“I am a Persepolis fan and wanted to join the team but they didn’t have any empty positions,” Mahdavikia said. “It was a hard decision to leave Germany, nonetheless I am happy to join Steel Azin”.
