Iran successfully test-fires Sejil-2 missile

SEMNAN, May 20 (MNA) – President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said Iran successfully test-fired Sejil-2 missile Wednesday with a range of about 1,200 miles.

The missile which uses solid fuel was launched during the president’s visit to Semnan Province.

"The defense minister has informed me that the Sejil-2 missile, which has very advanced technology, was launched from Semnan and it landed precisely on the target," Ahmadinejad told well-wishers.

The president said, “This is a great success for the country’s aerospace (industry)”.

“The Islamic Republic of Iran has achieved significant advances in manufacturing missiles such as Shahab, Sejil and Sejil-2,” he explained.

The Sejil, a forerunner to the Sejil-2, also with a range of 1,200 miles, was test-fired last November.

Defense Minister Mostafa Mohammad-Najar said on April 22 that the manufacture of Sejil missile has significantly improved Iran’s missile capabilities. “With manufacturing advanced missiles like Sejil our young experts have increased the Islamic Republic of Iran’s missile power.”

The minister said Sejil is much more advanced than the Shahab generation.

Sejil is a new generation of surface-to surface missiles.
