Toronto to host Biennial Conference on Iranian Studies this summer

TEHRAN, May 20 (MNA) -- The Seventh Biennial Conference on Iranian Studies will be held in the Hyatt Park Hotel near the University of Toronto from July 31 to August 3.

About 250 scholars from around the world will participate in the Toronto biennial to present their latest research on Iran.

 

A number of Iranian scholars including Mohammadreza Bateni, Abolqasem Esmaeilpur, Mahbubeh Abbasqolizadeh, Mahshid Abdollahi and Mehdi Ahuii will be amongst the participants.

 

A unique multimedia and musical performance will be staged on August 2 in commemoration of the millennial anniversary of the composition of Shahnamah, Iran’s national epic narrated by Ferdowsi.

 

Behzad Ranjbaran’s Shahnamah-inspired Persian trilogy will be staged with the cooperation of the Toronto Symphony Orchestra (TSO).

 

Iranian films including “A Few Days Later” by Niki Karimi, “Buddha Collapsed Out of Shame” by  Hana Makhmalbaf, “Kandelus Gardens” by Iraj Karimi, “Fireworks Wednesday” by Asghar Farhadi and “Men at Work” by Mani Haqiqi will be screened on the sidelines of the event.

 

A book exhibit displaying books on various fields of Iranian and Iran-related cultures, literatures, arts, religions, and civilizations will be held during the conference.

 

Being the largest international gathering of scholars who study, teach and write on Iran, the conference is organized by the International Society for Iranian Studies and Toronto Initiative for Iranian Studies.
