Iran foreign policy based on striking counterbalance to hegemonists: Leader

TEHRAN, Aug. 21 (MNA) – Iranian foreign policy is based on a rejection of “oppressor and oppressed” and striking a “wise and vigilant counterbalance to the global hegemonic system,” Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei said here on Tuesday.

In a meeting with Iranian ambassadors and other Foreign Ministry officials, Ayatollah Khamenei noted that the experience of the past three decades proves that the Iranian nation has emerged victorious in this confrontatione.

He went on to say that the Foreign Ministry should make plans based on national interests in line with the long-term strategy of the Islamic Revolution and the 20-Year Outlook Plan for Economic, Social, and Cultural Development (2005-2025).

The principles of the Islamic Revolution are inseparable from the national interests and national identity, and the major issues in foreign policy should be viewed from this perspective, IRNA quoted the Leader as saying.

Ayatollah Khamenei pointed out that Islam aims to lead mankind to prosperity and the Islamic Revolution has formulated plans for political, economic, social, and cultural development based on the teachings of Islam.

In line with the tenets of Islam, Iran rejects oppression in the international arena and advocates “peace, security, and prosperity for all nations” and that’s why there is a confrontation between Iran and the global arrogance (imperialist powers), the Supreme Leader observed.

He said that the hegemonic powers regard international relations as a “chess game” in which some nations play the role of pawns and fall victims at the whim of the major powers.

“We will never accept the hegemonic system. Of course, we don’t have the ambition to domineer, but we will never yield to oppression.”

Opposition to the global hegemonic system and rejection of “oppressor and oppressed” form the cornerstone of Iran’s diplomacy, he added.

Pointing to the U.S. propaganda campaign against the Islamic Republic, which has branded Iran a rogue state, the Leader said, “In fact, it is the U.S. which, as the Great Satan, is trying to establish global dictatorship and has revolted against the international community by trampling on the natural rights of nations, but it is calling Iran a rogue state.”

If standing up to hegemonic powers and defending the oppressed is a revolt, “we are proud of it,” he asserted.

The Leader noted that the Iranian nation has the ability to prevail over the conspiracies just like it did during the U.S.-backed Iraqi war against Iran.

“The Iranian nation emerged victorious from the eight-year imposed war, despite the fact that both the Eastern and Western powers backed Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein.”

Pointing to Iran’s civilian nuclear program, he said that such a success was achieved while the influential countries had imposed sanctions on Iran.

“All influential countries tried to prevent Iran from attaining nuclear technology, which they have monopolized for themselves, but now Iran has attained it and no power can take it from us.”

The “survival and rising power of Islamic Iran” and the fact that Iran has assumed a more prominent role in the region and the world are some of the signs of the victory of nations against global dominators, he added.

“Despite all the enemies’ threats and the various kinds of pressure, the Islamic Republic has become stronger day by day in the scientific, political, economic, cultural, and social spheres, and this reality heralds victory in the (Iranian) nation’s confrontation with the hegemonic powers.”
