Larijani congratulates Iranian team for winning IOAA title

TEHRAN, Nov. 14 (MNA) – Iran’s Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani has congratulated Iranian team of students who claimed the first place at 12th International Olympiad on Astronomy and Astrophysics, held in China.

Collecting five gold medals, Iranian team of students claimed the first place at 12th International Olympiad on Astronomy and Astrophysics, held in China on November 3 to 11.

In a statement on Wednesday, Iran’s Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani extended his congradulations to the Iranian team for winning the championship title at the tournement.

The two Iranian teams at the Olympiad included nine students, Hoda Pourgholami, Amirali Ekhteraei, Amirpouya Moeini, Navid Akbari, Alireza Mohammadian, Ali Younesi, Kian Bakhtari, Mohammad Sadra Heidari, and Mohammad Shojaeian.

The first team collected five gold medals and took home the title while the second team pocketed one gold and three silvers.

International Olympiad on Astronomy and Astrophysics (IOAA) is an annual event for highly performed high school students from all around the world. Established in Thailand 2006, it was initiated by five countries including Thailand, Indonesia, Iran, China and Poland with the aim to proliferate Astronomy among high school students, to foster friendship among young astronomers at international level so as to build cooperation in the field of Astronomy in the future among the young scholars.
