Iranian military embodies “assertive peace”

TEHRAN, Jun. 27 (MNA) – President Hassan Rouhani said the government while maintaining constructive interaction with international organizations will back the armed forces in defending the country’s prestige.

President Rouhani made the remarks in a meeting with senior Iranian military officials in Tehran on Saturday.

Rouhani reiterated the peaceful nature of Iran’s nuclear program, saying the Islamic Republic has never sought atomic bombs.

“The Islamic Republic of Iran has never been and will never be after building destructive and inhumane weapons,” he said, noting that attempts by enemies to falsely depict Iran as a country after nuclear weapons must be laid bare for the whole world to see.

“The enemy does not merely make weapons, satellites and missiles, but also creates a false perception of Iran for the world, region or even the people in Iran in order to show our country as a threat to the world,” President Rouhani said.

He added that in the face of attempts by the enemy to present false perceptions of Iran to the world, Iran should, in return, make the utmost efforts to clear these wrong perceptions.

He further pointed to Iran’s proposal World against Violence and Extremism (WAVE), which was adopted by the United Nations in the form of a resolution, saying that the approval of the resolution went a long way in countering the false images of Iran.

He also underscored the full preparedness of the Iranian military to defend the country against any threats, saying the reinforcing of Iran armed forces is in line with preserving peace in the region.
