Iran Rejects Reports That Kazemi Was Tortured

TEHRAN, July 30 (Mehr News Agency) – Iran on Wednesday rejected reports that the Canadian-based Iranian photojournalist Zahra Kazemi had been tortured before death.

Vice-President for Legal and Parliamentary Affairs Mohammad-Ali Abtahi told reporters that a special presidential committee to probe Kazemi's death had confirmed in their final report that the photojournalist had died from a deadly fractured skull, stressing that there had been nothing in the report to show signs of torture.

"The report had indicated a blow to the skull as the cause of Kazemi's death and various physicians have studied other cases [with the incident]. And nothing has been proved to us about any data that could show signs of torture," Abtahi said after the Wednesday cabinet meeting.
