600,000 sturgeon specimens released into Caspian Sea

TEHRAN, Nov. 15 (MNA) – An official in Iran’s Fisheries Company said Monday that they had released some 600 thousand sturgeon fingerlings in the Caspian Sea from August till October.

“We released the specimens in Golestan, Gilan and Mazandaran coasts to increase number and help reproduction of the sturgeons in the area”, he added. He said that the plan will continue for four years. Each year, Iran releases some 20 million sturgeon fingerlings in the sea.

The sturgeon proliferation plan in the Caspian region is limited to the Iranian and Russian fishery companies. Unfortunately, the two countries have to impose quotas on the reproduction and export of Caspian sturgeon and caviar due to a sudden reduction of the fish resources in the sea.
