Iran Expects Europe to Clarify Position: MP

TEHRAN, Jan. 19 (Mehr News Agency) - MP Ja’far Golbaz of the Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Commission said here on Monday that all political groups in Iran are opposed to foreign interference in the country’s domestic affairs.

“The political parties know that foreign involvement will lead to crisis and tension in the country,” he told the Mehr News Agency.

Golbaz was referring to the interfering remarks made by some European and U.S. officials regarding the Majlis elections.

He expressed Iran’s gratitude for Europe’s humanitarian assistance to the quake-stricken people of Bam, adding that it shows the depth of Iran-Europe relations.

However, Golbaz also said, “In our opinion, humanitarian assistance should not be used as a means for political intervention.”

He also mentioned the arrogance of the United States, stressing that Washington has adopted a wrong approach by interfering in Iran’s political affairs.

He stated that Iran expects Europe to clarify how its position toward Iran differs from the U.S. position.

Iran is a revolutionary country, in which the establishment of democracy is being accelerated, and, as a result, there are quarrels about the establishment of democracy,” he said.

Golbaz added that the time has not yet come for the disqualified candidates to be qualified, stressing that foreigners will not be permitted to become involved in the matter.

The MP stated that allowing foreigners’ remarks to have an influence in this connection would lead to a worse situation.

He emphasized that Iran does not interfere in other countries’ affairs and, consequently, expects them not to interfere in its internal affairs.
