EU trio proposes new sanctions on Iran: report

The so-called European Union trio of France, Germany and the UK are proposing a new list of additional sanctions on Tehran for its nuclear program, the Financial Times reported.

European diplomats confirmed the existence of the list.

According to the FT, differences have already emerged among European countries. Diplomats said five countries - Greece, Cyprus, Spain, Austria and Sweden – oppose sanctions.

There is no legal or technical reason behind certain Western countries’ opposition to Iran’s nuclear activities which are closely watched by the UN nuclear watchdog.
