Iran, Turkmenistan share stance towards Palestine: Araghchi

TEHRAN, Feb. 12 (MNA) – The Iranian foreign minister has said in a joint press conference with the Turkmenistan foreign minister that the two neighboring Muslim nations share the same stance when it comes to supporting the Palestinian nation.

Rashid Meredov, Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan and his accompanying delegation were received for a meeting by the top Iranian diplomat Abbas Araghchi in Tehran on Wednesday. 

Speaking in the subsequent joint news conference, Araghchi stated that "Iran-Turkmenistan relations are very deep," adding that the Islamic Republic of Iran was among the first countries to recognize Turkmenistan's independence. 

The Iranian Foreign Minister stated that Turkmenistan has recently adopted two important resolutions at the United Nations, saying, "One was under the title of international trust and peace, and the other was on Central Asia and the region of peace, trust and cooperation."

He added that based on the signed resolutions, the year 2025 has been named the Year of International Trust and Peace, congratulating the President of Turkmenistan and the national leader of that country on that success.

In this regard, Araghchi said that "[Iranian President] Mr. Dr. Pezeshkian will participate in a conference slated to be held in Turkmenistan at the end of this year in this regard."

The Foreign Minister of Turkmenistan had a very successful meeting with the President [Pezeshkian] today,  political consultations were held with the participation of the Foreign Ministers of the two countries."

The Iranian Foreign Minister stated that "the Turkmenistan ministers of roads, energy, and oil are accompanying the foreign minister of their country during the Iran trip," adding that, "In today's meeting, we exchanged views on regional issues and developments in West Asia, including the issue of Palestine and Gaza."

Stating that "the stances of Iran and Turkmenistan in relation to supporting the Palestinian people are the same," Araghchi said that, "We both are against the forcible displacement of the Palestinian people, and this issue is against international principles and the principles of humanity and human rights."

"Also, during today's consultations on the issue of Afghanistan, we had good consultations, and we decided to increase consultations between Iran and Turkmenistan on international and regional issues, in addition to bilateral issues," continued the top Iranian diplomat.

"We are trying to expand relations between Iran and Turkmenistan as much as we can in line with the interests of both countries," Araghchi concluded.
